As just one example of the hurdles I ran into when trying to install
linux, GNOME didn't bother giving me an error message to explain why it
couldn't drive my monitor at anything other than 640x480. I had to dig
through the logs looking for clues, and take several educated guesses,
before I could fix the problem by hand-editing a configuration file.
The OS was *zero* help at fixing the problem.

So I'm not sure what you'd suggest we use that's completely free of
confusion, but linux is definitely *not* that solution right now, and I
don't see that changing in the near future.
