I have a Mac with Panther. Could anyone tell me which utilies I should
be using to keep my Mac running top notch. I haven't brought any
additional software for this. Basically looking for the scan disk
equivalent etc.
I am a former PC user, who has left the Dark side !!
Thanks

DiskWarrior
Macaroni
Onyx
SuperDuper!
Applejack
I flog my system with the best, regularly screwing it up more than a 2 year
old. I can do so with impunity thanks to the above apps, especially
SuperDuper!
DiskWarrior fixes practically every issue that Apple's own DiskUtility's
DiskRepair and PermissionsRepair doesn't.
Macaroni takes care of the periodic maintenance automatically, among other
things.
Onyx does a bunch of stuff that other apps do. IMNSHO it's the best of a a
bunch (free and otherwise).
SuperDuper! makes bootable clones for free and does more for cheap cost. Best
support in any world. Once backedup you can "Smart Update" (only replace
files that have changed) in minutes.
Applejack does stuff from the commandline so should be used only if you're
comfortable.
If I had to add one other it would be techTool. In the past I have paid for
it but not in several updates.
And, before you ask, you do not have to defrag.
See VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
