And there simply is *NO* other correct answer than this one.
Unless, you want it to be secure. You can have
a) Configure-it-however-you-want
b) Secure
Pick one.
How about not having it connected to the internet or intranet? Yes,
there are people who have and use computers that aren't connected.
Of course that is true, but really has nothing to do with the above.
I said nothing about the internet. Plus, not having a password on a
system without an internet connection is still a potential problem,
unless you have it locked in some secure CIA-plot-movie inpenetrable
room.
The bottom line is that it is *my* computer, and if I don't want to have
a password, the OS should not force me to have one, nor should it make
it difficult for me not to have one.
And if I'm the only user, and the computer is not connected to the
internet, I do not need a password. If someone breaks into my house,
the last thing I have to worry about is their gaining access to the
content of my computer--I'm more concerned about their stealing the
computer and other stuff.
For that matter, since my router has a built-in firewall, I don't need a
password even though I am connected to the internet.
Case in point. What if someone cracks your firewall? D'oh.
