I'd plug the computer into another circuit in my house and see if the
problem was present on the different circuit. If not, then you have an
issue with that new circuit you had wired.
Are the speakers plugged into the same circuit as the iMac? If not, try
plugging everything into the same circuit. I'm no electrical whiz, but
the thought of static electricity enters my mind....
