No No Mr.Trash Man - I wannit back!

I made one of those fool Bozo moves -- just threw away 30 gigs of
stuff.
Fortunately, it is for the most part backed up, but this had
collections of files which will take me a couple days of assemblage to
put them back in useful order. For example it had all my scrap-art
iView catalogs, which exist on prbably 30 different CD/DVDs all in one
place -- probably a GIGs worth. There were other unique collections of
photos and artwork on it as well.
The volume resides on a HD with two other partitions, for what it's
worth.
"Data Rescue II" failed miserably, using its trashed files and folders
mode, retrieving only 20 megabtes of useless gargage.
I was intending to wipe the volume, AFTER saving off some critical
collections, so proceeded to transfer another 4 GB of files and folders
to another of the disks partitions, leaving the 40 gig partition
"empty."
Discounting my original blunder, WHERE DID I GO WRONG?
Can you recommend any solutions?
Thanks,
lenny
