Well, I was making a point. A lot of that big iron was from IBM, and OS/2 was deliberately sold as POS client terminals against remote applications.Hi! void * clvrmnky() <clvrmnky-uunet@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
What does your friend think of OS/2? Do they work with the protocols and systems used in the banking industry?
OS/2 was widespread here in German banks, however due to lack of
official support almost all switched to PCs/Windows. Office and other
'standard' applications (i.e. Reuters 'Cobra' for stock and foreign
exchange rates/calculations) are run via 'Citrix'. Many banks here don't
use PCs anymore but 'thin clients'.
The 'heavy' stuff is done on mainfraimes and 'big irons' running unix
systems, AIX quite popular there. On smaller 'backend' sytems i.e. department databases, Linux has sneaked
in already.
It is only relatively recently that Windows boxes have taken over this particular space. Much of the backend is still big mainframe iron.
