Hi,
Some interesting quotes there and it is IHT (count as NY Times)

Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide
product marketing, said in an interview Tuesday that the
company will not sell or support Windows itself, but it
also has not done anything to preclude people from
loading Windows onto the machines themselves.

I think this is the really missed story by us in FSB ,
SPEC comparison, firewire stuff. I don't want to comment, just posted story I think really missed.

Missed by whom? He said this Tuesday. There are on-going discussions about this all over the place (including here).

I don't really see why people see it as such a big deal.
Apple still isn't getting into the PC-clone business. These are still Macs, just with a different CPU (and whatever glue chipset is needed to run with that CPU.).

Microsoft isn't going to do anything special to support these machines but they certainly aren't going to turn down any money from anyone who buys a Windows-whatever license to run Windows on an Intel-based Mac. But do you really expect anyone at Microsoft to put any effort into getting it to work?

The number of people who will want a dual-boot machine and who are willing to pay Apple premium prices for the hardware is going to be miniscule. Certainly not enough to justify Apple supporting something like that directly.

There is nothing to do "special" to install Windows to that machines.

They use standard chipset, standard gfx chip, standard parts. It is a PC running OS X and Apple waits for iPod loving teenagers to give up all of their games etc and run OS X on them.
