My parents have a lot of trouble dealing with MS Windows and I'd like to recommend them to get an Apple and use Mac OS.
But there is one thing I know they will never understand:
If you close a window, say the iTunes window, by clicking the red X (= pressing Apple-W) the program is still open. If they change to that program with Apple-Tab they will see the menu bar, but there is no window. They will be very clueless, and it's hard to explain why the window did close, but the application did not and they have to go to the iTunes Window menu and choose "iTunes" in order to open the application window again.
I think in this respect Mac OS is much harder to understand than MS Windows. What do people think? And how can I explain this kind of odd behavior to my parents? I know they are used to close applications by clicking the X on the window, and they will get very confused on a Mac.

Hi,
Last august I bought my first mac...the mac mini...and its placed in my living room...and my wife and the biggest problem with that x does not close the application.....such a problem in fact that she had so many instances of some apps open that the mini started to cry for help....by actually displaying a message in the dock.....:)
.....:).......she had to call me at work in a panic...she thought she broke it.....she was also laughing hysterically at the time....she though it was cool when I explained what had happened...she had basically opened so many windows that the machine was calling out for assistance......try that in windows/xp......:)
....another cool thing about my mac mini is that when it is sleeping.....a little white light on the front glows bright ....then fades to dim.....then fades back to bright......my son was the one that pointed it out to me that this light behaviour was actually mimicking snoring......:)...very cool...
........but my family seems to be adjusting to the mac in my living room......it works.....and it works very well.....:)
good luck with teaching them the basics....have you tried just getting some sort of quick switch guide...like the one on apple.com.....or some sort of picture (in color) book........always worked for my computer-challenged father-in-law.....:)
