Don't keep stuff on the desktop. It's got some really terrible bugs.
Remember, the desktop is merely a "projection" of the contents of your
Desktop folder. This projection, putting the icons onto your screen
directly rather than showing them in a window as with every other
folder, involves some rather skanky behavior by the windowserver that
can really mess things up, including loss of data and a massive
windowserver.log file. Get out of the habit of using the desktop to
store stuff, and your whole computer will behave better. m.
