An alternative to opening in the full newsgroup window is to open the group
as you would normally but depress the option key at the same time. You'll be
asked how many articles to get. Questimate how far back a particular article
was and enter it. The advantage over the full group method is the full group
will give you all messages.
I use Hogwasher as my main reader but one extremely aggravating defect is you
can't undo. It does give you options to hide read messages and I usually do
that. But it gets complicated in binaries groups where it's best to trash
messages as HW's cache gets burdenened. Yet there are times in those groups
where there's a text message/thread I want to follow but I hit Trash instead
of Mark Read. Hitting Undo would be great. It works in Mail.app but more
applicable it works in Unison (http://www.panic.com), still in its infancy
but has many nice features.
