I've read a lot of stories about Giganews speed/authentication issues
this last couple of days - I wonder if they're having some glitches that
is causing the problems you're seeing?
FWIW I've never used Thoth, I find Unison fine for binaries, but for
text groups I use MT-Newswatcher.
