*What* "they"? You can't name one, let alone your quoted "a lot".
Besides, any such testing with Tiger would have failed, since Tiger does
not include StuffIt. So even by your own logic, only a bad company
would distribute a .sit file.

You should. It is a telling benchmark of how a company deals with
users. If their first interaction with you is to have you fishing
around for some other company's decompressor, odds are you'll be getting
the short end of the stick in day-to-day use of the software. I
immediately trash such items the same way I trash "movies" that get put
up in a proprietary Windows-only format.

Waste your time? You said there were lots! You surely must have *one*
lying around that you could point to. If not, you're making an
extraordinary claim without extraordinary proof, or any proof at all for
that matter. You're far from refuting me; no doubt Allume counts on
suckers like you to keep them in business.

Your presumptions are again misguided. No, any company you point to
will merely have me reexamine both my opinion of StuffIt *and* the
company. So, yeah, you forward a half-assed company and I'm going to
call it full ass, but if there is a company that actually has *a good
reason* to distribute .sit files, I sure as hell would like to hear it.

Do *you* presume to speak for all their other customer? All I said, and
I still stand by it, is that the default Tiger install doesn't hand .sit
files and a wise developer would pick a format that is supported out of
the box. I don't need to know *jack* about anyone's customers for that
to be true.
The bigger question in my mind is why people like you are so keen on
defending StuffIt. Unless they're paying you to astroturf, why do you
care?
