"Find" function always ZERO results (Panther Mac Mini)

I was over at a friends house today and although he had told me before
that his Find function (command F) doesn't perform, I was doubtful of
his claims.

He bought a Mac Mini about 4 months ago loaded with Panther. Everything
else seems to work flawlessly. Items he searches for with the Finders
"Find" function comes back with ZERO results.

As a test, we would enter files or folder names we were staring at
right on his desktop or items within a folder. Regardless of what or
where we did the searches, there were ZERO results even when we were
staring at the file.

I am also running Panther (latest version) but have never had this
problem.
Any ideas out there?

Ken
