Hi,

I'm having a frustrating problem adding my printers to my new IMac
(Intel). I bought an Epson R1800 printer and installed it successfully
via USB. However, I want to be able to print to it wirelessly so that I
can store it in my spare room. However, when I go into the Print Info
window it doesn't allow me to change the queue name to the IP address
of my router.

Epson does not support network printing from Macs with that printer.

So, step two I went to add a new printer, selected IP Printer, LPD. I
entered the address of my router and added L2 as the queue. Everything
is ok so far. Then, I selected the 'Print Using' box and selected
'Epson' and... the R1800 isn't in the printer driver list. There
doesn't appear to be any way for me to find and select the printer
driver that was installed and used with the USB set up.

Epson does not properly support the CUPS printing system which is built into
OS X and has been since 10.2. If Epson did support it, then you would be able
to do what you want to do. As Epson does not support it, you cannot use Epson
drivers to do what you wish.

Epson doesn't even support the R18x0 series with their parallel-to-ethernet
external print servers.

There don't seem to be any 3rd-party printer drivers which support this
printer.

You would appear to be out of luck.

So I don't know what to do now. Is there some way that I can find the
printer driver that the USB install is using and copy that somewhere
(in which case, what would the file be called?)? Or is there a way of
changing the queue name in the printer info for the first printer I
installed (the USB version). If they allowed me to change it, I could
do that and everything would be sorted. But it doesn't.

If the guys at Gutenprint or HPIJS or some other 3rd-party driver maker
support your printer you'll be able to do what you want.

If you get a device which can act as a print server (such as an AirPort Base
Station) you _might_ be able to do what you want.

If you, and enough others, scream loud enough at Epson the might get their
thumbs out. Don't hold your breath waiting.

Help!

Alastair
