How does the 870 interface to a computer? Is it by Bluetooth? If so, you
should be able to get it to work by setting it up with the Bluetooth
System Preference, and then with the Printer Setup Utility. I have an HP
Bluetooth printer, but it takes about ten times as long to print over
Bluetooth compared to a direct USB connection. Unless I'm doing something
wrong, Bluetooth isn't a good way to connect a printer.
If it connects by USB, then the Apple Airport Express may be a good
approach. I understand you can set it up in Wireless Distribution System
(WDS) client mode, and it will act as a USB printer interface. To do
that, your Netgear router would have to be 802.11g compliant and support
WDS.
Are you using the wireless router with any Ethernet connections? If not,
then you could replace it with an Airport Express and use that for your
wireless router in addition to interfacing the USB printer.
