Hello,

Until these last days, my Macintosh Portable had no problem, except
the sound which was very quiet.

Now there is only a black screen, and a regular noise of the hard
disk.

What can I do to make it work ?

What model of Mac is it?

Take it into bright sunlight. Can you see a picture on the screen? If
yes, do you have brightness keys on the keyboard? Try increasing the
screen brightness. If that doesn't work, the backlighting on the screen
is probably gone.

If there's no picture, find an external monitor and plug it in. Is
there a picture now? If not, then the video circuitry on the logic
board is probably gone.

Thanks,
it is not the the backlighting model, but the first one, i.e. M5120. When
I switch on, the screen becomes black, the hard disk makes a regular
noise, it seems that it does not want to boot. Little by little the black
screen disappears.

There is no picture, no sad or happy Mac, nothing, the HD does not want
to boot.

Do you have a system install disk? Try booting from that. If it boots
from the CD and works OK, but not from that hard drive, that indicates
the hard drive is bad.

If it won't boot from the system install CD, then you have a problem on
the motherboard.

Depending on which it is, you can decide your course of action.

Hope you have a backup of your data.
