In OS X is there a way to force a scan and then mount the devices on
the busses. I have a PCI SCI card and an external Hard Drive that will
only mount in OS 9. And as far as I find online an applications like
SCSI Probe are only available for OS 9 and below.

Launch Disk Utility, select the volume you want to mount, click on 'Mount'
in
the toolbar. Or use the File menu and select 'Mount'. Or press
shift-command-M.

I have some other SCSI external 50 pin drives that mount but a few
that do n't. And as far as I can tell disk utility in OS X can't be
used because only the drives that mount on the desktop appear in the
list at the left. Its that rescan I wanted to manually try to see if
they would appear to disk utility

Disk Utility will show any device which shows as a mountable volume. It will
show SCSI, IDE, SATA, FireWire, and USB devices. The only restriction is that
the device must be recognised by the system. What kind of SCSI card are you
using? Some, including Adaptec 2940s (I have one in my old beige G3) are not
officially supported by OS X. My 2940 works with 10.2.x, but has problems
with 10.3.x, which is one reason why the beige is running Jag and not
Panther. If you have an unsupported SCSI card, the device won't show at all
in Disk Utility and you will not be able to mount the volume. Period.

My card is an ADPT 2930CU running 10.3.9 on a Blue & White G-3 tower.
As I said above I do have other external things SCSI peripherals i.e.
scanner, CD-RW drive and a few hard drives that work that I have taken
on and taken off the external chain as I try to mount the drives in
question, the card is a two channel (has internal hookup too not in
use). I finally reset the cards defaults with the utility for it in OS
9.2.1 and got one of the drives to mount on the desktop. Have not
tried the other one yet that also would not mount. But still will not
mount in 10.3.9. When I was in OS 9 before I reset to the defaults on
the card it has a list (SCSI Probe) of SCSI with ID. I set (4) for the
SCSI ID and it had another list on the right with the heading Logical
with the drive info at the zero position. That listing went away after
I reset the card and the drive finally mounted in OS 3. The error
message in OS 9 and SCSI probe before I reset the card said “ Failed
Logical unit not supported”
What’s a Logical unit? And how does it relate to my problem? If the
card is not supported in 10.3 why do some peripherals work and not
others
.
