Also be aware that it is not necessary to see two app's windows at once
for drag 'n' drop and related actions. You can start to drag 'n' drop,
use command-tab or Expose to reveal your destination, then finish
dragging to where you want to go.

That's good to know! Nonetheless, why would I want to have to do those
extra steps everytime I wanted to cut and paste from one pane to another?
If it's a single pane app, I save steps.

Though with my example above I was thinking more about drag 'n' drop
between different apps.

However, in many cases I have windows in even one app that are too large
to all fit on the screen at once, without covering each other. I tend to
spread out and use all of my screen, and I like to see as much of a
document as possible, not be squished into one pane of a much larger
window.

That said it's perfectly possible to have up to three documents in my
word processor open side by side on my 24" screen. I may often be
wasteful of my available space, but it's certainly possible to fit a lot
onto today's large screens without overlap.

Anyway - different strokes for different folks and all that. Certainly
I've noticed numerous multi-pane Mac apps over the years, though in my
case I've been avoiding them, heh :-) But I'm sure you'll find software
that accommodates your work style.

Talk about irony! With the DNC coming to Denver in late August, I spoke to my boss on Monday about possibly working at home if getting through the crowds and the security is a major problem. (I live in W Denver and work on the E edge of downtown, so I'll be commuting right through the middle of all that.) One of the things I do at work is write VBA macros for Excel, so I decided to check and see if the VBA features in Excel for Mac, which I've barely looked at, since I rarely use XL at home, are the same. Guess what? The Visual Basic Editor, where you write VBA code, is a multi window view in the Mac version! LOL! So it looks like, sooner or later, like it or not, I'm going to get to work in that environment!
When it happens, I'll post back here on my experience, good or bad. Will be interesting to see how easy or hard it is for me to adapt.
