I'm trying out Hogwasher now - it appears that the design is more to
my tastes. But I haven't been able to find a reference giving
keystrokes, nor have I found out how to catch up in a newsgroup.

It took me a while to figure out how to make the messages visible.

What is the keystroke to Read Next Unread message?
What is the keystroke to Go Back to Previously Read Message?

Oops, wrong news group, sorry.

Well, Read Next Unread Message is just the spacebar. If you leave the
graphical display on - can't remember what they call it, but the pane with
all the little boxes - then you can just click on a previous message. I also
have a rule set up to assign a label to my own messages so that I can pick
them out easily.

Wrong newsgroup or not, HTH!
