When clicking on the Internet Sharing button, an alert box popped up
saying the following:
"Are you sure you want to turn on Internet sharing? If your computer is
connected to a network, turning on Internet sharing may affect the
network settings of other computers and disrupt the network. Contact
your system administrator before turning on Internet sharing."
Can someone tell me what kind of affect this setting can have on the
other computers on the LAN? Can it disrupt other's connectivity? Is
there an analog in Windoze XP?
Further to the other comments, turning on Internet Sharing
essentially sends a msg to all the other computers on the network
saying "Hi everybody, I'm the computer you should connect to the
Internet through, here's your IP address, report to me, blah, blah".
If there's already a system on the network performing this role,
then obviously there is a potential for problems.
If you have a router on the network that has an uplink to the 'net,
then don't use Internet Sharing because the router will already
perform that role.
If on the other hand, the Mini is connected to the 'net via a
router on the Ethernet network, and you are intending to share
that to a Wireless network, then go ahead - the Mini will only
broadcast to the Wireless network.
Thanks for all the responses. I got how it works now, and what that
setting is for.
