General advice: Do not use an Admin account for routine use. You must of

non-admin account for your routine use.

Most people I know using either Windows or OS-X don't do this because
it is a bother.

And I am much more likely to buy Windows software if I know it doesn't
require administrator privilege to upgrade. Going through PC
support every time a program does a periodic upgrade is a real pain at
work. Some programs update the registry, and some don't. iTunes &
Quicktime are bad this way.

I haven't yet used a Mac in such an environment.

It's not a big bother on the Mac.

I normally use a Standard account. When I need to install an application
program, I go ahead and install it. The computer asks me to give an
administrator name and password, which I do. That's all there is to it.

If I decide to switch over to the Admin user, I can do it quite easily
and then back again. No big hassle as long as I know the Admin account
name and passwrod, and provides an extra degree of security.
