This post motivated me to try something I've been meaning to do for
ages: Copy my OS (10.2.8) to another HD, for backup purposes. Like we
were able to do in about 3 minutes pre-OS X, just drag and drop the
system folder to the new HD..
First of all, it takes ages, because the Mac OS is now about 100 times
larger and there are a couple of folders to move.
Secondly, it doesnt work because as owner (!) of this Mac I don't have
the necessary permissions, etc, etc to move certain files..
I've just read elsewhere in this thread that I should have done it as
root user. Hmm...
Does this mean all _complete_ HD backups have to be done at root level?
I know most automated b/ups use the incremental system so then it
shouldnt be necessary.
