Sudden Airport Problem

iBook w/airport card, OSX 10.4

I replaced a perfectly good Belkin wireless G router, WEP enabled, with
brand new identical router last night to troubleshoot slow internet problem
(later verified as a Comcast problem & since fixed).

iBook stays on, closed, and has always connected to this home network, same
WEP & network name employed on new router, without a problem.

Today, ibook won't connect to network. It sees the network but when I try
to connect, typing in (and I've tried many times) the WEP key, it gives me
"there was an error joining the AirPort network "X"

I have two Windows machines, a Mac Mini (also running 10.4) and an older
iBook (10.3) that connect & stay connected with no problem.

I've swapped the airport card to make sure its not hardware but I have the
same problem. It sees the network but won't connect, even if I remove the
WEP from the network and leave it open. I've repaired permissions and
ditched the old network password from the keychain, rebooted each time I've
made a change. Still no luck.

Any suggestions?
