trying to get a cd to work on old performa 636cd

i need to load a cd on this old machine; it won't recognize any cds i
burn on my g5. the specs say that its cd drive is 2x. does that mean
i have to use a cd that burns at 2x? or do i need to consider somthing
else? help would be very appreciated.
