10.3.9 problems

i have a Blue & White G3 with a Powerlogix 1 Gz G3 processor, 640 MB
ram, ATI 9200 vid card.

i have OS X 10.3.0 on disc, did the install and everything went well.
then i upgraded to 10.3.9 and it all went to hell esp with my firewire
400 drive and problems with being unable to empty the trash,
disappearing icons and files, etc.

what's happening?

i finally backed up what i could and did a clean installation of 10.3.0
and all seems well again.

any opinions?
