thoughts on DevonThink?

Does anyone have thoughts positive/negative on DevonThink, the basic not the higher priced software? I'm using Panther and would prefer to not switch but also do a lot of research for writing/studying and frequently have a problem in finding things previously saved. I tend to organize things in small notes/snippets such as quotes or paragraphs from longer texts.
fwiw I've recently "fallen in love" with my 1.5 year old G4 PB (1.25ghz). My XP Tosh was in the shop for two weeks (mainboard/videocard replacement) and I was "forced" to use the Mac. After not having to deal with AV updates, anti adware updates, and too many other issues -- not to even mention the feel of the keyboard and the intuitive OS X structure for a few weeks really sold me on it. Now when I have to work on the Tosh it feels like a toy, junk. Unfortunately I can't afford to get all of the software I've on it for the Mac, otherwise I'd never ever turn on the Tosh again (and the Sat.Pro is one of their better machines).
Thanks,
kj .
