Man, i have doing a lot of reading on this, and it has been really
confusing. According to one source:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=675578&highlight=v710+osx+i
sync

Apple's iSync the latest v2.1 has effectively implemented OBEX, which
is some kind of object-oriented file transfer protocol, and now allows
the v710 to sync. Another site:
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/Motorola_V710_isync.html
dated August last year said the problem was with motorola's
non-implementation of OBEX. There are endless forum discussions of
this and hacks that, because of the nature of forums (people sometimes
not having their information straight) say conflicting things. And of
course, the corporate sites, Apple, Motorola, Verizon... are totally
useless because they are too busy to get things right.

As to the modem issue, i did find a hack that i am not certain can be
adapted to OSX:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=674803

Here is a site that says that it will work as a bluetooth modem out of
the box with the correct configurations and script:
http://stevenfettig.com/mythoughts/archives/000189.php

According to some, here is a place for Motorola modem scripts:
http://www.taniwha.org.uk/
I presume CDMA or generic.

Looks to me that Motorola has discontinued the v710 after releasing it
just a few months ago. This is the worst side of our technical
culture. First they dont get it configured correctly to use as
advertized, then rather than working out the bugs, they move on to
something with greater advertized hype.

And i think if Apple & Motorola got anything to work, Verizon would
cripple it. This is a good analysis of Verizon's "business model":
http://www.nuclearelephant.com/papers/v710.html

If you read nothing more, read this article. It is well researched and
well written and discribes the slimey relationship between Verizon and
Motorola, and Verizon's cavalier attitude toward's it's customers.

I suspect the security thing is 90% BS. I mean you do have bond the
computer & the phone with a code only accessible on the computer, so
the computer would have to be hacked first. They are selling a phone
that you expect to be able to use as a modem, synced addresses,
scheduler, move files & pics, so that after you buy it find out you
have to subscribe to their paid service to get it to work poorly, if at
all.

Makes me cynical.

I post here as i learn more or if i get anything to work.

Thanks for the reply,
terry.
