I didn't know this, but I'll find the COMBO UPDATER and redo the entire
exercise.
I'm finding this a little frustrating. The machine in question (brand new
20" iMac, w/ 2 gig of ram) has a set of problems that, were it happening on
a PC, would signal to me some sort of previous disk crash. Every time I run
Disk Utility, it finds permissions out of order, and fixes them (or says it
does). Every time I run Tech Tools Pro (which I just got yesterday) it
finds hundreds of "minor errors" with files. I also get a weird font
problem in which I build something with InDesign or Illustrator, save it,
reopen it, and get told that it uses fonts that are not installed on this
machine and would I like to make font substitutions?????!!!!!
Arg.
Anyway, I'm going to take your advice, repair all disk permission problems,
re-install 10.4.2 again as suggested, then repair again and see if the
problems go away.
Thanks again for all the good advice here...
