I suspect I will want a Firewire hub when I get a drive for Time
Machine for my Mac Pro. But I was looking for Firewire in the
webcams at Compusa, and didn't see any.
I also saw that most of the dual/mode disk drives weren't
USB/Firewire, but USB/SATA.
Use your DV cam. Does your webcam have 20X or more optical zoom?
Nice glass optics? Nothing comes close to a firewire connected DV cam.
A quick Google didn't indicate what you mean by "my DV Cam". It
appears to mean "Digital Video". My wife's camera can do video, but
we never use it to do that. I think the camera built into her iMac
can do video as well. And my phone takes photos of the inside of my
pocket (it has an external shutter). Those are the cameras I have.
So what camera should I get for my Mac Pro?
Do you not own a digital video camera that uses Mini-DV tapes? Or one
that uses Digital 8 tapes? If not, ignore that suggestion. Unless
you realize that you can buy one used for about $100. Maybe you could
use it to shoot video? If so, you've got a free firewire webcam. A
used iSight goes for more than $200, sometimes more than $300 thanks
to Apple's brainless discontinuation of this very popular and high
performing webcam. But it doesn't have zoom and anywhere near the
level of control even the simplest DV cam will have. USB is really
crappy. The iMacs use USB - go figure. More brilliance from Apple.
"Let's take a great product and sabotage it." Especially since they
have firewire in the computer! Apple: "Think Illogically Different".
