Now, what is "signature"? To me, the term only applies to things like
signing checks, letters and contracts.

A signature is a "press form". That is, a collection of pages from a
printing press.

Think "section".

For instance, we publish a large weekly newspaper. Last week, our paper
was 128 pages.

The press we print on is not physically capapble of printing a 128 page
tabloid newspaper in a single print run. So we print in "signatures".
In the case of a 128 page paper, we would print one 64 page sig, and
two 32 page sigs (to account for the color demands. In a 64 page sig on
our press, we only have 16 pages of full-color available, 16 pages of
black plus one spot color, and 32 pages black only. In a 32 page sig,
we have full color vailable on every page).

I downloaded the software and tried to run it with no luck. When I tried
to force it to open a document, the result was: "The document "06-11.pdf"
could not be opened. CheapImposter cannot open files in the "pdf"
format." The preferences were grayed-out, so it appears necessary to have
a document open before you can set them.

Have you read the "How-to Guide"? I just flipped through it but it
appears to explain things reasonably well. With pictures.

The first PDF I tried it on was rejected as it was encrypted, but on
the second it pproduced a nicely imposed document.

I suspect my problem is related to using Rosetta on this Intel iMac. If I
can get it to work, it looks like a useful program for club newsletters
and the like.

When I can shove my daughter and her friend off our Intel iMac I'll
test it.

As for newsletters, it would be useful for printing letter size pages
onto 11 x 17, for folding and distribution if you have a tab siz
printer available.
