Rise of Nations - Problems on iMac G5 with Mac OS X 10.4.2

Hi
I'm experiencing strange problems with Rise of Nations on my iMac G5
revB
running Mac OS X 10.4.2.
In the menu screen after the title screen I get white rectangles
underneath
the menu items. While this is (very) annoying I can still navigate the
menus
so it is only a display problem. But then, when I try to start any game
I
get lots of errors display in pretty stupid error message boxes (The
error
message talks about ignoring or aborting, yet the dialog only shows a
single
OK button.) and finally the application crashes.
I suspected a faulty OpenGL driver so I did a complete reinstall of Mac
OS X
10.4 and applied all updates that were available as of yesterday. Still
the
problem persisted.
So this is either a bug somewhere in Rise of Nations (Though it's far
from
the only game that won't run... the included Nanosaur 2 as well as the
Myst
V Demo won't run either) or Apple broke something in one of the
updates.
The strange thing is that Unreal Tournament 2004 runs without a glitch
on
the very same setup.
Does anyone else have such problems or does anyone have any ideas what
else I could try?
Does anyone know who ported it? I know Brad Oliver used to hang out in
these forums helping people with Alpha Centauri problems back in the
days. Maybe the developer who ported Rise of Nations is also as
helpful.
Best regards,
Sacha
.
