I have a Power Mac 7600/120 that bombed and when I restarted, all i
get is a floppy disk with a flashing question mark.
I've restarted several times and still get the question mark.
Don't know what to do next and can't remember how to shut it down in
the hopes that if it rests for a few minutes it will work again.
a blinking ? means no bootable system is found on any mounted drive.
in other words, the installed system (or disk) is corrupted somehow
(and that's probably what caused the crash in the first place) and the
mac can't boot from a corrupted system.
the next step is to boot from another disk (your backup, perhaps) or a
system cd, and see if the disk corruption can be repaired. if the disk
is readable but only the system itself damaged, back up your files and
reinstall a new system. if the drive itself is completely unreadable,
you will need something like disk warrior to repair it, and hopefully
it can succeed.
