Very Newbie FTP questions

Total novice here. I did a test page in Word. Saved in HTML. Opened up
Fetch, connected with my new (and totally under construction) web site.
Now what do I do. I tried intuitvely, clicking the page, hitting put
(upload in Cyberduck). My web page doesn't change. Obviously I need
some simple answers as to how to do this. Just post one page on the web
with an FTP.
