That's why MT-NW has the preference option to automatically open all the

It's easier to just open one of the newsrc files.

Well argued...

If you have multiple group lists (for example because you use multiple
servers, or just to keep things organised), having MT-NW open them all
at launch is less work than having to locate and click-click them all
individually.

Having MT-NW automatically fetch the file from a ftp server is similar,
but is limited to only a single file (and might be a security risk).

Yep it seems to be limited to just one file. That doesn't bother me,
since I am accustomed to having one single list of subscribed groups in
a single window anyway.

As far as security goes, you are just as responsible for maintaining the
security of your FTP server as you would be otherwise. And the newsrc
file only contains the names of news groups to which you are subscribed
along with the range of articles you've already read for each group.

That said, the benefit of being able to open MT-NW on any computer,
anywhere and see the same list of subscribed news groups and have the
read status of each of them automatically synchronized, far outweigh the
above two drawbacks, IMO.

Send responses to the relevant news group rather than email to me.
E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my very hungry SPAM
filter. Due to Google's refusal to prevent spammers from posting
messages through their servers, I often ignore posts from Google
Groups. Use a real news client if you want me to see your posts.
