which garmin gps? recent ones use a standard mini-usb cable and older
ones used a serial port. either cable can be found for $10 or less.
My eTrek needed a software update when I bought it I discovered. It has
a totally weird place to plug in a cable(well over $10), and the cable
to fit it was not USB, so I'd have needed some kind of converter as
well. I finally sent it to Garmin and they did the update for me.
presumably you mean etrex, not etrek. that's a fairly old gps, back
when garmin used serial ports with their own connectors. recent garmin
gps units are all usb. in any event, the data cable is $15, not what i
would call 'well over $10'.
