Sorry for my sloppy use of term. One supposes that in order to import
the file, it needs to be able to read it... anyway, to clarify:
The error that InDesign throws up is
Failed to open the PDF file.
when placing the PDF (importing in your terms).
That should have be clear from my message, which mentioned that choosing
the Import options didn't solve the problem.
I read it differently. No matter.
Against my better judgement, I launched the piece of excrement that is
Excel 2008 and created a chart. (Well, actually, I still waiting for
Excel 2008 to launch... Hum deedum... Oh, there it is! And typing
returns to normal speed.)
Okay... Create a simple bar chart, Print, use the PDF popup at lower
left to save as PDF. New InD document... Place... And I get the same
error that you are seeing.
Thanks. So it's not anything associated with my machine.
I recomend trashing Excel 2008 and falling back to 2004. That's what
I've done. I despise 2008.
I'm beginning to think that's exactly what I'll do. You're right, Excel
2008 is an awful piece of crap. Things that were simple to do in 2004
are now impossible, not to mention the bugs.
You could also file a bug report with Microsoft.
Of course filing a bug report with Microsoft is like spitting into the
ocean.
I doubt Adobe is going to help as they're on CS4 now.
That's true.
Thanks
