No, there is no compelling reason for you. There is for JR and others.
But you and I and your wife and I are different people who will happily
use the internet and when we get fed up with anything at all will have
other browsers with other features that will make up shortfalls. But we
will not do this until we fully experience the need for it. Do not blind
yourself with science yet, use a quality browser, Safari and see for
yourself.
Are you suggesting that Firefox isn't a "quality browser?"
If I were Black Dragon, I'd be more interested in the rather explicit
message that dorayme knows the personal tastes of Dragon's wife. :-(
There was no such implication. The one thing I guessed about the OP and
his wife was that they were new to Macs. Safari is an excellent browser
and there is no reason at this stage for anyone new to Macs not to give
it a good run to see for themselves if they are in any way unhappy. JR's
advice about FF is excellent to keep in mind if there is any
dissatisfaction.
And apparently that science blinds you. I guess it keeps you from seeing
"the light". :-(
Appearances can be deceptive. It takes more fairness and charity than
Richard Maine has for me to suppose that I meant much more than that OP
should not be too worried at this stage about the superiority of any
browsers other than Safari, till he has tried it out. No need to go into
various technical and other details (of which there are a great deal and
which could easily be brought up in threads like this).
It is a common theme of necomers to anything to be wanting to know what
all theri choices are and it is not bad advice to suggest they stick
with an acknowledged simple strategy till they feel any roadblocks.
Safari comes bundled, is well intergrated and is a fine browser.
