Have the problems with Mail been fixed?

I had so many problems before with Mail malfunctioning that I asked for
advice on a replacement program, and was advised to use Thunderbird.

I've been using Thumderbird, but I'm having so many email problems
because of my ISP's complexities and inefficient operations and poorly
trained customer service reps that I want to switch back to Mail. My ISP
won't help me to configure and troubleshoot my Thunderbird, because it's
not a standard program, but it will help me to configure and
troubleshoot my Mail problems.

Is it safe to switch back? Sometimes with Mail I wouldn't get any email
for days because the email was stuck on the server. I haven't had that
problem much with Thunderbird.

I have a late 2006 Imac and OS 10.4.11.

It's getting slowly better. Updates in 10.5.5 give it decent enough
speed. It rarely crashes. Searching is still a disaster.

How so? I'm having good results searching years of messages.

It's a disaster if you're searching for a rare word that's similar to a
common word. Spotlight assumes they're the same.

Nested MIME
segments still produce an empty window.

Haven't seen this.

Some MS Mail clients create these. They're legal but Apple's Mail
produces a completely blank window on them. You can't even view the
source. At best you can drag the message to a file and view it in
another app.

There's still a bug where typing gets progressively slower, consuming all
CPU time, until the app
must be quit.

Under what conditions? What's the bug report number? I've not
experienced this one either.

I've even posted the Shark dump. It appears to be a memory leak in tool
tips.
