But don't stop at just looking to adjust your own adblocking software or
plugins because others might be affected too. Go to the cause, take a
look at all the names of your images and rename the ones you are having
trouble with and reload to the server. Do this *before adjusting your
computer in any way* otherwise the problem will become invisible to you.
If librarything were the only problem, I'd think it's because the cover
images come from various sources, but I get NO map images from MapQuest
or--I just checked--Yahoo's map site, either. Google maps DO appear on
Firefox, however. And all of them work in Safari.
New experiment. I fired up the G4, which is running Mozilla 1.01.* It
gets ALL the cover images from librarything, but no maps from Yahoo,
MapQuest, OR Google.
*I haven't it upgraded it because I don't normally use it for the
internet.
I thought I should mention that while Firefox does not have a built-in
ad blocker, it does have its own image blocking mechanism. Right-click
any image and you'll see a menu item called "Block images from (domain
name here)" in the resulting contextual menu.
It's quite possible you accidentally selected that menu item for
MapQuest, which would result in Firefox refusing to load all images from
their web site. To remove web sites from this block list:
1. From the Firefix menu bar, choose Firefox > Preferences.
2. On the tool bar at the top of the preferences window, click the
Content tab.
3. Next to the "Load images automatically" checkbox, click the
Exceptions button.
4. Highlight the entry in the list for the web site you want (MapQuest,
in this case).
5. At the bottom of the window, click Remove Site.
Note: By default, Firefox has *no* entries in this list. So you could
just skip steps 4 and 5 and click the Remove All Sites button instead.
