Re: ipod itune songs synchronization in different machine?

Davoud:
I'm no doubt lacking in imagination, but my iPods do pretty much what I
want and expect them to do--play audio and/or video through devices of
my choosing in my house and play audio through my cars' stereo systems.
What am I missing? What potentially interesting and useful things could
iTunes/iPod do that I don't know about?

AES:
But I'd like my iPod to be more broadly a standard, straightforward,
USB-connectable external volume that can be connected to any standard
USB-capable computer, for any HD use -- BUT one thats also has software
built into it that can play (or view) any audio (or image) files in any
of some reasonable set of standard formats that I happen to load into
it, using drag and drop or any other standard file transfer method,
without EVER having to get iTunes involved, or even having iTunes on my
computers.

As regards iTunes:
It's not a bad cataloging app, but anyone who has used a really good,
well designed, fully featured media cataloging app -- iView Media Pro,
EndNote, Now Contact are three -- can only be frustrated by the very
limited capabilities, cluttered and nonstandard format, inflexibility,
and all the popular music clutter and jargon that characterize iTunes.

OK, this as a replay of the old refrain "I don't like iPod/iTunes."
It's legitimate and it is above criticism; iPod is not a universal
device. A quick search of Amazon returned scores of non-iPod media
players, none of which requires iTunes. If none of those does just what
you want you will either have to compromise (life is full of
compromises) or design your own portable device and perhaps market it.

If I wanted to do what you described, however, I would get a Tablet PC.

p.s. I've used iView Media Pro (now Microsoft's "Expression Media"),
Aperture, and Adobe Lightroom; yet I still find iTunes to be adequate
for managing my little music and video library and my iPhone and
several iPods..
