And those cheap-o power strips aren't even the kind of surge protectors
I'm talking about! I have never considered those to be "surge
protectors" any more than I consider a crappy moped to be a
"motorcycle"! ; )
Surge protection circuit inside the typical UPS is a same circuit
found in cheap power strip protectors. Jolly even provided APC specs
to prove it:
http://tinyurl.com/r8a2k
APC specs provided by Jolly:
Surge energy rating 420 Joules:> zero clamping response time : meets UL 1449
Filtering Full time multi-pole noise filtering : 5% IEEE surge let-through
Dataline protection RJ-11 Modem/Fax/DSL protection
(two wire single line),RJ45 10 Base-T Ethernet protection
Where does it list protection from each type of surge?
I never said it did.
w_ loves this "each type of surge" phrase - yet nobody else here is
discussing it!
No protection is claimed.
Of course protection is claimed. It's a "surge protector". They even
include an equipment replacement warranty with every unit, should any
equipment you plug into it get damaged. Obviously they want consumers to
believe their equipment is protected!
w_ would love for us to ignore this!
Will Jolly continue to deny his own specs?
I don't care about specs. I care about results. The results speak for
themselves - these things do prevent the type of damage that plagued
various friends and relatives over the years! There's no denying tis
fact!
w_ would like us to ignore this as well!
He says UPS and cheap power strip protector are different. But both
have the same protector circuits. Jolly does not know this? Even
those specs report same.
The joules ratings aren't the same. Go figure.
I guess in w_'s world joules ratings mean nothing at all!
Obviously (even without spec numbers), that UPS does not provide
effective protection.
And even though you say this, they in fact *have* provided effective
protection for numerous people in heavy thunderstorm areas! Go figure!
I suppose you'd love us all to believe it's just coincidence, eh? Years
worth of coincidences! Yes!
That APC UPS has no 'less than 10 foot' connection to single point
earth ground. It contains ?near zero¹ joules. Even its specs don¹t
claim to provide that protection. Why does Jolly claim what even APC
will not?
The only thing I've claimed is that friends an relatives equipment,
after being connected to APC UPSs, haven't had a single instance of
damage in many years. To me, that means they DO work!
Well, near zero joules is enough to claim ?surge
protection¹ on color glossy sales brochures. Those brochures are
where Jolly, et al *know* a UPS must somehow absorb the energy of
direct lightning strikes.
I never said any such thing. I never claimed APC UPSs protect equipment
from "direct lightning strikes".
w_ would love to put words in other people's mouths.
