So while I highly recommend Office 2004 with Palm devices, I strongly
encourage you to stay far away from Office 2008 for such things!
I had no problems syncing my Palm TX with Entourage 2008. Calendar and
Contacts are the items of interest for me. I have never tried to sync email.
I also sync the Palm with my Lotus Notes calendar at work to get a single
view of my schedule.
Just as I won't run Excel, I will explore every option before running
anything M$. Thus Entourage is not a possibility for me, or anything
in or bundled with M$ Office.
I use the Docs2Go package to sync Word and Excel files. It works reasonably
well but not all the advanced options are available on the Palm platform. So
I use I primarily in view-only mode and do very limited editing on the Palm.
I tend to use what works for me. Entourage is arguably one of the most
full-featured, robust email clients available for Mac OS, and the
built-in calendar and address book are top notch as well. Just because
something comes from Microsoft doesn't necessarily mean it's crap -
especially in this case. To each his own, though...
Agreed. The news reader functions are somewhat limited but do the job for
me. I like having a single interface for mail and newsgroups.
I have long thought it curious that Apple supports syncing with Microsoft's
Office better than with their native desktop applications.
And for hardware, Palm has seen better
days, so I'm ready to move on there too.
The touch screen on my TX is getting to be unreliable. I hope that I the new
iPhone that are rumored to be coming tomorrow will have enough functionality
to replace the Palm. I would be nice to have dual synchronization with
Windows and Lotus Notes in addition to Mac OS X.
