Is iPhoto, indeed the other iLife applications that are "included" with

The iLife applications are not included (or built in) or anything else
with OS X. If you go out and buy a copy of OS X, you won't find them
there. They are included with some Mac computers, but not with the OS.
The apps mentioned previously in the thread, however, are.

Does OS X REQUIRE Mail, Address Book and/or iCal to fully operate?

If "yes", they are indeed "built into". If "no", then they are stand
alone applications.

OS X 10.5.2 runs fully and just fine without those applications.

You can split hairs all you wish. They are not "built into" the
operating system.

Hmm. Who is it that is splitting hairs here? I thought I was saying that
there wasn't a meaningful distinction, which is rather the opposite of
splitting hairs.

As the person who originally said they are "built in" I say it is
hair-splitting that is quite beside the point of my post, which was a
response to a new Mac user who is trying to figure out how to do some
things on his new Mac.

It is far more useful to help the original poster (new Mac user) than to
debate about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

Then someone should probably actually try to answer his question about
the application he's using rather than blurting out a list of
alternative applications.
