But seriously - anyone want me to say you referred me and get the free
extra backup space? Anyone kind enough to want to say I referred you
(see below for my details and how this works)?

I would... except that I aleady use Mozy, and I have the paid unlimitted
storage version, so the "extra space" wouldn't do anything for me. I
will say that I've been using Mozy for a little less than a year now and
I'm quite pleased with it. It was a bit rough around the edges the first
few months, needing occasional manula "kicking" and the like, but it has
been pretty stable for me for the last 6 months or so.

It just saved my 17-year-old daughter. She went away to school last
fall. I set her up with Mozy then because I wouldn't be around to take
care of backups for her, and I had a pretty good idea of what would
happen if I counted on her to do backups manually herself (she wouldn't
get around to it). The hard drive in her laptop died just about a month
ago. All her data was retrieved fine to the new hard drive... and she
was even able to get a few urgent files for class assignments using a
school library computer before she could get to the Apple store to have
hers diagnosed and repaired.

Be aware that the inital backup is awfully slow if you have much data.
It can easily take a few days or more. I think mine took over a week.
But you can go ahead and use the machine during that time. And
afterwards, it pretty much doesn't get in your way.

I did *NOT* have good luck in backing up my Parallels and VMware virtual
disks with Mozy, though. The files are too big and change too often. I
was hoping that the block-incremental feature might alleviate that
problem. It does appear to cut it down by a factor of several... but
that's not enough. So I explicitly exclude those files (and I just make
sure to save copies of my important data outside of those virtual
disks). One could presumably also run Mozy from within the virtual
machine, as there is a Windows version.. but I don't.

Another recommendation for Mozy. I too got the $4.95/month
unlimited home account, and I'm using about 47GB of online storage.

In addition, I've also found the Mozy Mac Support team to be very
responsive to feedback on issues during the beta.
