I installed Yahoo Messenger a few months back and never used it.
Tonight I fired it up and tried to talk to a friend. The window
scrolled back to the top at every line typed! Doesn't anybody
screen these calls!!!!!
I upgraded to 3.0 beta something, the latest travesty I guess,
and the scrolling problem seems to be gone.
But... messages don't appear linearly. It somehow decides to
lump messages in blocks somehow. How can I turn that off?
And I have a WebCam, being a MacBook, and the friend has
Windoze. I fired up my end of webcam, saw myself in the
bottom of the friends pane, saw a note that indicated the
other end was being requested to approve, the other end variously
saw something that didn't work to approve, or nothing. They don't
have a web cam installed, but this should not prevent seeing my
webcam. Is this a known Mac bug?
I miss the old windows log of connections. It seemed to be gone
in the old beta I had. Now I see there is something called
message archive. But under "Window" there seems to be two
selections. I can select one, but it doesn't "stick", nor
is there a useful help entry on "archive". Is this a known
Mac bug?
So, bottom line, this version seems to be so poorly implemented,
why has it even been released? Will there ever be a usable
version of Mac Yahoo Messenger?
My friend said I should move to AOL Messenger. Is that any
better?
Thanks, John
Two points:
1. Even though Yahoo 3.0 for Mac is a beta version, when I contacted
Yahoo, they did send me a step by step procedure for resolving the
connectivity issue which i encountered. I never tried the video chat
so I don't know if that is working.
2. Why not use iChat which is compatible with AOL IM and has the
ability to video chat. Unfortunately, you can't use iChat to chat with
someone who has a yahoo account, only AIM and .mac
Hope this helps.
