What do you need to clean up?
Sorry, I should have specified the problem. At odd times this foreign-
looking picture appears on the screen saying that the machine has to
be restarted in several diferent languages. The appearance of the
message is strange: It is rectangular ,takes up about half the screen
and has what seems to be intended as a menacing appearance. The
machine has to be restarted, breaking the internet connection and
losing any unsaved work. I cannot even guess how it got there or where
it came from. I don't even know for certain that an anti-virus program
will eliminate it, but I'd like to try. Thanks.
*dies laughing* Classic, absolutely classic! LMFAO!
It's not funny. We get this kind of thing all the time. Earlier this week we
got trouble calls from customers including the following (and no, I am NOT
making this up...)
1 one (not particularly bright) young lady called in (after the tech we'd
sent out had set up her network and left) to say that she'd 'corrected' an
error in the network setup, and now she couldn't get on the Internet, and she
was furious, and wouldn't pay, etc., etc.
When asked about the 'correction, she stated that she'd requested a (ahem)
wireless network. (Which she had...) What she'd got was a network which
allowed her to connect her computer wirelessly, but which had 'big unsightly
wires' between the modem and the router. She'd removed the big unsightly
wire... and now couldn't connect to the Internet.
Yes, folks, she had unplugged the Ethernet cable between the modem and the
router... It took half an hour to convince her to plug it back in, and even
then she was mumbling something about 'misrepresentation' and 'lawsuits'...
2 an elderly (very elderly, even for South Florida) lady called in re the
nice new system that her grandson had purchased for her so that she could use
that new thing called the Internet. She wanted to know how she could get to a
new web site, she was tired of the old one. It turns out that she'd spent the
three days since we'd installed the system for her doing nothing but explore
Comcast's site, and didn't know how to get to any other site.
At least she was teachable, and after a few minutes actually had a clue...
For each of these there are probably 10 more with the same problems that are too embarrassed or frustrated to call for technical help, and so turn off their computer and go back to gardening or writing lettes long hand.

Thank you and have a nice day.
