No, the standard location for this is /usr/local/lib, and that's where
Audacity will almost certainly look for it. That's where you should
install it. You'll need to use sudo to copy it there, since
/usr/local/lib is not world-writable.
I'll move the directory somewhere (I'll look for a candidate that
looks logical) and then install it to where you said.
.I like lots of subdirectories to make
it easier to find things by category, and find the large Applications
directory to be clumsy for someone like myself who doesn't remember
names of applications.
Command-line packages like this don't go into /Applications. They go
into locations like /usr/local instead. The /Applications folder is for
GUI applications.
