As far as rating my music ... I've never had the slightest inclination!
I rate them, and use the rating in smart lists.
I like all my music ... and I might like certain music more on one
particular day, or in one mood. I rather like to rediscover my music
rather than focussing on my own top rated hits. It would be handy if
listening to lots of music for reviewing, but I don't need to do that.
The OP might be interested to check out an app called Remote Buddy
(which I only just heard about) which extends the functionality of the
Apple Remote.
