Hi Im new to a mac and recently i downloaded 2 apps. Specifically
Adium (chat program) and msn messenger. Anyways today i noticed two
new files on my desktop one for each of these applications, some sort
of device files. After ctrl key and mouse click on each file, a popup
gave me an option to eject them so i did and they disappeared. Can
someone tell me what they are and how are they used?
ps sorry if this is a very elementary question :)
The files were the mounted disk image files (.dmg) that contained the
files necessary to install your programs. Once the programs are
installed, they can be ejected.
The default in Finder is to show mounted volumes on the desktop - the
two new "files" that you noticed on the desktop.
