It's not redundant, it's a wise precaution. What if the developer
folds, or I have trouble finding his website again? What if the newest
version of the software isn't compatible with my system, and the old
version is no longer available online? Keeping the DMG files or
installers ensures that I have backup copies of all the software I'm
using. I keep them in a specific folder, and don't delete them until
I've archived the folder to CD or DVD.
